Three Key Steps to Secure PC Software

Secure pc software is the most important factor in protecting your device, computer and data from hackers. Hackers (also called cybercriminals) break into your computer or other device for a variety of reasons, such as avast internet security vs avast free antivirus taking, altering, and deleting information that you consider important. Hackers are motivated by malicious motives, unlike other thieves who steal items for legitimate purposes. They are most concerned with unauthorized access to your sensitive information, often before you realize that something has gone wrong.

Passwords, a virus protection program and firewalls are the three main steps to secure your PC software. If you follow these best methods, it’s less likely that your computer will be hacked by hackers or malware (software which encrypts information and demands payment for its unlocking).

Change the name of the administrator account. Choose a password that is strong and contains upper and lowercase letters, numbers and computer symbols. Avoid using a standard password like 1234, as hackers can employ automated software to hack passwords that are easy to guess in minutes.

Make sure that your operating system (OS) and other software up to date. Most software updates contain security patches to help guard against hackers. Install all patches and set up automatic updates if available, to minimize your vulnerability to hackers.

If you own a laptop, or any other portable device that’s not being used, make sure the drive is secured. This is especially crucial for UF students. You can enable encryption in Windows by opening Settings > Update & Security > Device encryption. This will encrypt the entire internal drive, as well as most external drives, such as SD cards.
